The Writers' Circle

I was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1956 but am now living in Clifden on the west coast. I always loved writing at school but, unfortunately, this wasn't greatly encouraged. When I finished what passed for my education at 14 work, marriage, children and life in general meant I was too busy to write. Now that things have quietened down in recent years I have begun writing again.

I write mainly poetry and short stories but have recently discovered that I may also have an aptitude for writing song lyrics. I don't sing or play instruments myself but I am an avid fan of music, in particular great singer-songwriters like Hank Williams, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Loudon Wainwright III, Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley and so many others who inspire me; so I have the tunes 'in my head' when writing lyrics, so to speak, and I'm hoping to have many collaborations with musicians. I already have one on video with Spike Flynn, an excellent singer-songwriter in his own right, singing my song 'Your Cheating Ways' which is on YouTube if you would like to check it out. I would also like to have my poems read to music...
