It's Contemporary Christian music for me.

It depends. I find African music uplifting and quite inspiring. I sing along to Reggae when I feel great, and on a quiet evening when I am writing or just relaxing, a mix of 80's music.

I enjoy classical, but occasionally I drift into the other genres...

I like to think I enjoy a varied taste in music although I am sure those closest to me would like to pigeon hole me into indie music more than anything else.
Some of my favourite artists are:
Greenday
Oasis
Blink 182
Dashboard Confessional
Fall Out Boy
Kaiser Chiefs
Snow Patrol
To name a few.
I find that sometimes listening to a song can make me picture scenes to pluck stories from or take a concept from a song's meaning and write something around that idea.
Does anybody else find music to be a fantastic muse in the writing process or is it just me?

No it's not just you, I listen to Music also when I am typing my book, depending on what book it is at the time I listen to different music but I always find that Classical works well as it is so inspirational. (And a good bit of depressing music is good for those sad parts in the book, just to get you crying!)

I listen to music when I write. For some reason, I can't write when it's silent or when there's too much noise. Even music that's too auditory or dissonance or music where's there's singing gets me distracted. I have ADHD as well as Asperger Syndrome, so it's easy for me to get distracted when working.
I guess only insrumental music lets me focus on my writing. Relaxation music is the key for me to calm down. So far I've listened to Chinese music. I hope I can get African, Celtic, and Native American music at my local Wal-Mart. So far it helped.
