The Grandfather Clock:
For years upon years, clocks of all sizes and ages
traveled for miles to see the clock of the sages.
Tall he was, and known to be wise,
So with their troubles, clocks came far and wide.
Many so often went to see him,
that he became a good friend to them.
And so, as they began to be like family,
The old clock became known to all who could see,
The great granfather clock, reliever of miseries.
But one tragic day, men came into the sages,
Taking the clock that had lived there for ages.
The clocks were mournful, the watches were sad,
Each clock wondering how they would go on without thier grandad.
But another idea the great grandfather clock had,
So that clocks would be comforted and could be glad.
Each quarter hour, the clock would chime,
Sending out a message to those of his kind.
It comforted them to hear thier old friend,
To hear his wisdom that would help them.
By and by, clocks all around were taken by man,
But never were they sad, as thier chimes ecoed across the land.
Each one discovered, by each quarter hour ringing,
Men only thought that the time they were singing.
So clocks all around were able to keep in touch,
Ringing every quater hour to ask and tell much.
And so a well-known idea came from the wise grandfather clock,
So that clocks can hear from him and each other by going 'tick-tock!'
