I am currently attempting to write my first novel and I am having an attack of the jitters, does anyone else NOT have a back ground in writting and is it essential if you want to write a novel? All I have is an idea and an extream love of books, is this enough?

I don't have a formal background in 'writing' per se. However it is something that I have always loved to do.

Everything starts with the love of books and the love of words - and that all important idea. Good luck with writing your novel, and post snippets on here if you wish.

Hi Mardanissa,

Its great to have the chance to say Hello!

I do not have any writing background either, only a few poems and short stories that for the most part have never been seen by anyone other than family.

You have the most important of all the tools to write, the love of it and the dream of doing it. Without those you would have nothing! Everybody who writes and even has work published started with the dream and determination and nothing else.

I find that if a person enjoys writing and has the desire to write they usually have some talent for creative writing. Everybody here is the same, the only difference is that some have been writing a lot longer and so have more experience and have learnt techniques over the years that have helped them develope.

This is a great place to start and im sure you will find that everyone is just the same as you, the most important thing to have is the desire and the dream.

Good Luck, you have everything you need to start.

Of course it's enough to just have an idea and a love of books. As the others say, go for it!

When I started out I didn't have a "background" in writing. These get built up over the years of trying, being rejected :( , and trying again.
