You are the one who has always been
My confidante and my friend.
You loved me when I was blue,
You were there when I needed you.
There is no one else who can take your place;
Nothing as beautiful as your loving face.
You are my sun on a cloudy day;
You are the one who taught me to pray.
Throughout my life you have taught me much;
You taught me to cook and sew and such.
You taught me how to love and give;
In fact, you’ve shown me how to live.
You’ve always had such faith in me;
You gave me vision with which to see.
You gave me a treasure to have and hold;
Something that can’t be bought or sold.
You gave me a legacy of love;
You sent it to me on the wings of a dove.
I only wish I knew how to say,
How much of that love I’m returning your way.
