Daddy

I've never seen my father
because he died.
Like so many others
his time had come,
but he left me behind
to reproduce
and never let the line die.
Oh Daddy,
do you see me all alone
wishing I could see your face
but the tears mist my eyes
and I cant reach you
I cant reach you.
I'm thirty now
but what does age mean
time ticks on, progressing
but grief just lingers
like old smoke infesting the lungs
until too much
too much ...
I want to run and escape this pain
but its fingers reach out
grasping the words
collecting in my swollen throat
and I fall down.
Sitting in a room
any room,
the swirl of noise tuning in and out
I'm just a little girl
who's lost
and is waiting for her Daddy
to come and take her home.

Thank you so much for your comments - I have a confession to make I've never shown anyone these feelings before, not family, not friends and I was really anxious exposing them here - every word is true.

Poppy 101, I just read your previous work. My father died 10 years ago when I was 50 (he was 80). Reading your poem still brought tears to my eyes!

No wonder you've got a gold star for this one, it's so powerful and emotional I can relate to the feelings in it because I lost my Father when I was only 11years old in tragic circumstances, many years ago. Although I now have a step-father, who absolutely brill ,I will never forget my Dad and the memories I hold dear.. God Bless.

Wow
I can just imagine
that void in your heart
and in your mind
having your father
but not having him
I wouldn't know what it's like
I can only feel your poem
It's about love . . .

I'm an avid reader who gets lost in the world of books. My poetry tends to be a stream of consciousness running along the pulse of emotion. I'd like to try new things but as always its finding the time ... (Read more)
