No matter how often I review my writing, I constantly find style errors. I tend to slip into sentences that do not have an action. Many of my sentences are in a state of being instead of doing.

I tend to write sentences like this one.
"She was standing on the roof."
(Being)
"was standing" describes "She" not the action of standing.

I want to say it like this one.
"She stood on the roof."
(Action - doing)
"stood" describes what "She" was doing. This is action, and how I want my sentences. What did the subject, [she], do? She stood. I want to be able to ask that question on every sentence. (What did [the subject] do?)

Not all my sentences are in the state of being rather than doing, but enough of them are that it will be benefitial to have a style checker find them all for me. I don't want to miss a single sentence.

I have seen this program WhiteSmoke, but other than the Internet I haven't heard of anyone using it. Anyone here use WhiteSmoke? I don't want to shell out that kind of money on untested software just for this single style problem I slip into all the time. I just need some practice I think.

Never heard of it I'm afraid, though I must say that, if it were me, I'd rather practice and learn from
errors that I've made. It saves you money and helps you grow as a writer.

If you do choose to go for it then good luck with it. Hope it's not a rip off.

The original sentence is fine. I wouldn't fret about style- as long as the reader can understand the idea,
it's fine. Hope this helps.

I just purchased WhiteSmoke, waiting on my download email from them. I'll let you know how the software
goes.

As for the style, I don't think that's a style problem. That's an action problem, one that I had myself.
One thing that helped me was place all the being verbs on a sticky on your computer monitor. Then put
a big do not use sign on them.

It'll take awhile, but it worked for me. I very rarely use a being verb now, and only when it is absolutely
necessary.

let me know if you like it. I'm still on the fense about getting it or not. Having a spelling and grammar
checker on every typable area sounds pretty awesome.

For one, we could check our spelling and grammar in the text boxes we post with on this site.

Sorry, can't help you out on finding any software like that.
As someone reads, they don't really notice things like that often.
As long as you get your point across then it is fine. Of course, it is important that you are happy with
your work and how you write what you are trying the say you want it to...
Would it be too much trouble to go through your work after, and then check by yourself? I know its not
really the most convenient thing to have to do but if you want to make your writing the best way you can,
it is worth it most of the time.
