The protaganist

So everyone knows the protagonist is the main character of a drama or story.

In a chapter I wrote my protagonist shoved someone into a bathroom.

The person who read it said it was not an action of a protagonist.
I don't want to sound ignorant or naive. But i just want to know if my protagonist is supposed be perfect, sweet and angelic?

Personally like protagonist to be somewhat of a bastard with flaws but with good intentions.

What are your views on this? Guide me.

I think they have to either be a good person or become one. Or you could write the story as I did mine- where the main character is not the focus of attention, or is seen through the eyes of another. Hope this helps!

Any protagonist must have some sort of flaw(s) to be believable. There are no perfect people, so there should be no perfect protagonists.

Just my humble opinion! Happy writing! ;)

Protagonnists can never be sweet and angelic. There's always a dark side in everyone, even the protagonists like the antagonist has a good side. It makes the story richer that way. Hope this helps!

Thank you Dragonwriter, Zion and DeUndrae. You all have been great help. My perception is the same as yours DeUndrae. When i was told 'this is not an action of a protagonist', my thoughts were of confusion.

Besides your character is what you want it to be as long as it makes sense :)

The idea that a protagonist must be a "goody" is old-fashioned. I have read a few books where the MC is the villain of the story and the antagonist is the "good guy".

I feel that an adult can appreciate more astringent tastes than sugar all the time...

Flaws are an important part of character development because they make the characters feel like real people. You cannot have your protagonist be almost too perfect. He/she would need a humanizing flaw, something to give his/her character added dimension. He/she could be arrogantly rude yet be a good person and being fiercely loyal, et cetera. Good luck. Hope it helps.

Hello AVFreaky22, A protagonist can exactly do what you want him to do. He could be fearless, tough and sometimes rude or even annoying. but they can be defined by good intentions. If you'd like to see if your character fits anyone elses, then look at chinaren's stories especially one where he uses blasphemy... So I take it your character is good aslong as he doens't feel sorry for himself, what I know is if you write well, people woudln't nag about your character main point of view.
