Poem for a Friend

One of my feeble attempts at poetry, written for a friend who loves fantasy and is obsessed with dragons (contrary to popular belief, my favorite fantasy creature is the phoenix, not the dragon). I know the rhyme scheme is inconsistent- I focused more on the meter at the time. Anyway, enjoy!

The birth of a star
the heart of a moon
May your journeys be far
and lucky for you.

Through lore and magic
to castles of stone
Imagination
becomes home sweet home.

It is you, my friend
who shall still remain
after iron gates
through memory lane.

So be the dragon;
guardian of flame
Imagination
will help reach your aim!

Personally, I feel this conveys an extremely powerful sense of camaraderie. Despite technical flaws, the raw emotion contained within each stanza kept me hooked until the finish.

I particularly enjoyed the imagery created with 'memory lane' and 'iron gates.' The idea that the strength of your bond can overcome any physical obstacle is a nice touch.

In summary, I think it is an excellent piece of work although, grammatically, it could do with reassessment.

Wow. Thank you! I rarely do poetry, but when I do it's usually just for fun. Glad you liked it!

This has a very strong and powerful feel to it.
Very nice choices of words in it... some were small words, but you chose them perfectly, making it describe just what point you wanted to reach.
You are a very imaginative writer, which is a required trait for a great writer!
Well Done!

This piece is very good, I respect the thought you put behind it as well. Putting thoughts into poems is half of writting them. you should try to come up with more of them. Plus there is so much that you can write about, but if you need help with any of them just ask me and I'll happily tell you. For exmaples you can check out any of my work.

Hello! I am a young fantasy writer with serious ambitions. I write as a kid, for kids. My motto is 'there's always more you can do', which is probably why I work my tail off at getting published. I've ... (Read more)
