An Autumn Scene By Gary Jarvis Creation of a crimson sea Underneath the setting sun A gust of wind wills a wave Amidst the leaves of autumn. A blackbird crows from its nest Searching for the hidden worm It readies itself for attack Diving most ruthlessly. The worm gone with one large swoop The blackbird proud, sits amongst the leaves Cawing to mark its territory A hunter hears the bird and seizes its opportunity. A fight ensues although not for long Spear like teeth puncturing their prey Droplets of blood hit the earth below The blackbird's life no longer with soul. The hunter retreats with its prize into the warmth of home The wind picks up stronger than before The sea of leaves spiraling upwards Reds, browns and golds fighting a battle in the sky The image like a rich medieval tapestry, ending with no victory.
