The scene: spooks Ron and Tiamo were on their way to negotiate dope buys but the sellers had more things in mind - to relieve Ron of his $600K Vacheron Constantin watch. Ron had a hunch that their hosts would be sending out the goons. Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
//////////////////////////........

After a quick shower, Ron donned a pair of blue denim pants and Chuck Taylor runners for ease of walking. He checked his 'little mikey' with Megan. She gave him a 'green'; it worked great. His striped light-blue Armani golf shirt was perfect for the tiny transmitter. He checked his AV jammer and placed it securely in a pant pocket along with his portable Bluetooth in case he needed them. Leaving his backpack behind with his Studio laptop, he splashed some cologne to complete his unobtrusive outfit. After double-checking all his paraphernalia, he stepped out and knocked on Tiamo's door.
Tiamo wore thin black-rimmed glasses that made her look like a cross between a librarian and a fashion model. She was in a pair of jeans as well and a pair of low-heeled white Rockport walking shoes. Her short, black, soft leather jacket over a stretchable white shirt completed her outfit. She had a matching skinny leather briefcase gripped under her armpit.
"Ready?" Ron asked massaging his nape trying to coax the butterflies off his stomach.
"Yes sir, ready as molasses," she teased.
"Huh?" It didn't register but he managed a smile.
"Just kidding, let's go," she chuckled.

From the forecourt of the Peninsula, they trodded east on Salisbury Road toward the East Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Station located at the corner of Chatham Road South and Salisbury. The pair took the Tsuen Wan Line of the ETST MTR down to Admiralty subway station and switched trains over on the Chai Wan subway line for a quick one-stop hop to the Wan Chai station. In no time, they were playing sightseers.
Emerging like lost tourists, Ron and Tiamo wandered around looking for Exit A3 on Thomson Road. It didn't take long for them to find it. All Hong Kong MTR stations were well directioned with English and Chinese characters leading the passengers to their destination. All trains and subway areas were spotlessly clean. Most tourists might wonder if cleaners operated twenty-four-seven in the underground, or one would assume. Perhaps, they were just as scared as the Filipino slaves, working sixteen-hour days, sometimes even more, of losing their slave jobs.
While they stood outside facing Thomson Road, Ron studied every person in the area especially those who loitered around the premises. He spotted an old man across the street that matched Sonny Boy's build. He was seated on the bench near the front of the Toi Shan Centre with a walking cane and sported platinum-white hair, a white FuManchu moustache and a long white beard. Ron signaled to Tiamo pointing with his snout.
"No, that's not him, too obvious. I've known Sonny Boy for quite a while. When he puts on a disguise, you won't know it's him."
Tiamo knew exactly what Ron was doing while he scanned the area for possible goon attack. If his hunch were right, she would go along with it. Ron continued his mental photography of the surrounding area but there was too much bustle to concentrate properly. Finally, Ron winked at Tiamo to signal their 'lost' status to Ah Mie and see what would happen next. He dialed from his LG.
	"Ah Mie speaking."
"Hey, uh, Aaron here, we're standing opposite the Southorn Stadium to my right at Exit A3 as you'd suggested but I think we're gonna need some assistance. I'm facing Johnston Road and I can see a, uh, Stone Nullah Lane - is that right?"
"Did you say Stone Nullah Lane?" Ah Mie repeated it for Remy who was standing by ten feet away on another untraceable 'pay as you go' cell, speaking to someone.
"Yeah," Ron replied, wondering why she had to yell.
"Yeah okay, I think I know where you are. Go down and take that lane until you reach the end. You'll see a building in front of you. That's the Zenith Tower 3. Cut across between Tower 3 and Valiant Court and you'll see my building, Zenith Tower 1 to your left right across Yan Yee Court. That's Wan Chai Rd.," Ah Mie said, feeling lucky.
"Okay, see you in a bit," Ron clicked the off button and almost immediately two fellows came out of the Luckifast Building. One had his head down but Ron could see the goon was staring at him.
"Don't look now but we have company," Ron whispered to Tiamo.
The other fellow lit up a cigarette while watching them. As they crossed Johnston Road, Ron's BOLD beeped a text message.
	It was Sonny Boy:

"Say cheese! You're on candid camera. There are two ugly suckers on your right."

Without warning, one of the two flicked off his cigarette and stepped in front of them. Ron placed his arm across and in front of Tiamo to shield her from the two while easing her instinctively behind him like a tiger protecting his cub. Just then, he remembered Tiamo was a Wushu expert.
"Ron, let me handle this," she whispered.
"Take the guy on the left," Ron replied softly without taking his eyes off the goons.
"You boys better step aside before you get hurt," Ron warned. The strangers chuckled. They glanced at each other punching their own palms and cracking their knuckles.
"That's a nice watch you're wearing. Hand it over and your pretty missus here won't get hurt," the stranger on the right threatened. Tiamo chortled.
"So the pretty girl thinks it's funn-"
	"Keeeeyyyyyyaaa!"
Not wishing to hear the end of a long story, Ron moved in with his left leg and lifted his right leg. While balanced on his left, he snapped his foot and hit the guy squarely on the temple with a vicious roundhouse kick. The thug collapsed immediately toward the direction of the kick. His partner watched in horror; his eyes followed his fellow goon collapsing - embracing the ground. Quickly, seizing the moment, Tiamo moved in closer. With dazzling speed, she made a sudden lunge of her torso to counterbalance her front kick.
"Eeeyyyyyup!" The ferocious kick found its target deep into the fellow's genitals.
Clutching his pride and joy, he writhed in pain down to the pavement not knowing what hit him. The other fellow was fast asleep. Tiamo and Ron leaned over to frisk the goons for some identification. There was none.
The pair continued along the lane past Kam Shing Building. Two suspicious characters came out of the Hang Wong Building to the right. Two more materialized from Kwong Har Building and yet another one ran out of Coral Court. They faced the two and appeared serious.
Ron side-glanced Tiamo then switched toward the five goons. He briefly checked behind him; the two were still grounded. One was nursing his privates and the other plastered on his belly, unconscious.
"Stay to the left and watch your back," he told Tiamo.
"Watch the guy on the far right, he's got an ice pick," Tiamo warned.
The ice-pick boy lunged first and Ron stepped to his right in a quick straddled stance. With left hand raised, Ron blocked outward and grabbed his wrist narrowly avoiding the ice pick. Ron stood up, legs straight and swung his right hand past the left side of his neck. With a rigid open palm, he snapped and chopped it with blinding speed across the goon's Adam's apple. The ice pick boy choked briefly, fell to his knees then his face made friends with the dirt. Ron immediately faced the goon beside ice pick boy, shifted his left leg a half-step backward then lowered his center of gravity in a straddled stance - right side facing his opponent. He raised his hands in a menacing defensive move and placed them squarely between him and his adversary. Remembering his instructor's message, 'head down and always look at your opponent's solar plexus; you will be able to see all of his limbs' movements'. He stared at the guy's mid-section and waited for him to get closer.
Meanwhile, Tiamo toyed with the other four, egging them to come within striking distance. One made the obvious error of moving close enough for her long legs.
"Lady Dragon whips her tail," Tiamo announced and with one fell swoop, swung her right leg around using her left as a pivot and hit the closest one on his right jaw. He let loose a sickening yelp as he braced himself into the ground, senseless. His eyes disappeared above his eyelids. His buddies looked in stunned silence. They never bargained for this.
"Three to go, who's next?" Tiamo continued mocking.
The one in the middle pulled out a Balisong or, some would call it, a butterfly knife. When the thug flipped it open with one hand, Ron quickly slid his left leg behind his right and, with a piercing scream, bounced with a flying sidekick in a jumping fluid motion. Ron's right foot smashed heavily on the thug's chest. The balisong man tumbled backward on his butt twisting and struggling in pain. His face contorted trying to grab precious air into his lungs until he folded and blacked out.
"Two to go, which one would you like, Ti?"
"Uh, let's see, the ugly one."
	"They're both ugly."
"How about the uglier one on the left."
	"Fine."
The last two guys were alternately looking at Ron and Tiamo. Both eyed their fallen comrades trying to decide if it was still worth it. Just when Tiamo was about to leap, they lost heart and took off in the direction between the Kam Shing and Wu Fu buildings.
Tiamo gave Ron a closed fist shake and said, "Just when I was having a great time, they take off. Well, good job, partner."

Grampa Pogi, I might not be the right guy to comment on this chapter. You see -- I'm very familiar with the locale where the attempted robbery took place. Wanchai is my "backyard", but for someone who's never been to Hong Kong, all the street and building names might be a bit intimidating. By the way, there's a typo: It's Southorn Stadium, not Southom. I told you -- it's my home turf -- I might even know the four goons in your story personally!

Seriously, I enjoyed the action, the wushu (kungfu to Westerners) choreography. You obvously have spent some time in Hong Kong. Next time you come to Hong Kong, please, please give me a holler. (My cell phone: 852-98794829.) I'd love to play host. No goons would dare bother you when I'm around, guaranteed!

Hey BobChoi,
Thought you were from Lamma Island. (Ex-resident of New Orleans). And you've met those goons too, huh :-). Didn't know you're from Wanchai, it's the tourist area, you've probably bumped into those Wanchi girls too, 'cause they're friendly with the goons :-). I used the building names instead of the generic 'they came out of a building' to give it authenticity. And thanks so much for pointing out the typo. I have one last chance to submit a last edit. Otherwise, on to the dreaded 2nd edition.
Next time to Hong Kong, I'll definitely give you a shout, that'll be great.

Grampa Pogi, I've lived at different districts: Mongkok where I grew up, TST (near Temple Street), Ap Lei Chau, Lamma Island and now Discovery Bay on Lantau Island. I used to work at Central and Wanchai is where I hang out after work.

Hi Bob Choi,
Hong Kong is very fascinating. When I did my research, I chose those locations that showed some of the contrasting places which reflected HK's true identity. Julie lives with Brenda in Tung Chung on Lantau Island which is near the airport area. The syndicates were headquartered in Yau Ma Tei near the Jade Market as well as in Tai Po up the Sha Tin area. The gang operated their brothels and night clubs around Wan Chai district. (Now I know why you hang out there :-). Just kidding.
Ron Bello (the main protagonist) once took his date, Julie, for dinner at the Jumbo (one of the Kingdom restaurants) in Aberdeen (just north of Ap Lei Chau). I took the reader on a trip Christmas day . . . Julie, Brenda and Ling Ling went (among several places) around Temple Street which turns into a market at night with hundreds of makeshift stalls lining the street, which was closed to traffic and hundreds of vendors hawking various kinds of goods, from fake wristwatches to handbags and other items one could only find in a flea market. It stretched from Man Ming Lane through the grounds of Tin Hau Temple over Kanshu Street to Ning Po Street. Mong Kok (where you grew up) is where a collection of markets are (Bird Garden, Flower Market, Goldfish Market, Ladies Market). In the book during their trip around, I showed that there's also a good side to Brenda's virago character, in the little segment, that even the worst person can be good natured too. Mong Kok and Yau Ma Tei presents the coarser side of Hong Kong. The protagonists also took a helicopter ride to Cheung Chau and settled the skids near the 'Windsurfer' owned by the uncle of HK's first olympic gold medalist. I was debating to have the 'copter go to Lamma or Cheung Chau and settled for the latter. I'd mentioned Disneyland which is a stone's throw from where you are now in Discovery Bay. One of my respondents lived in Discovery Bay for several years as a maid working 16-hour days, 6 days a week (slavery?). She said rich people live there and mostly tourists. (And lots of maids, ie slaves too :-) Some people think HK is just a tiny island. There are numerous outlying islands, the new territories, the main islands and the various cultures and lifestyles that makes it HK. I showed HK's good, bad and the downright ugly side that if it was a person, she'd be a difficult woman to understand. Simply fascinating.
