Hiya me and my pen are best friends its why I am so lonely (snivel)...my only fwiend. Actually I use a keyboard more we are having an affair (don't tell the pen) I am such a user I know I have broken its heart and its keys a few times and sometimes the letters fade but we still keep in touch you know. I just write if an idea hits me so they are only rough drafts I am scared of criticism because I just am! How else can I explain it so just thought I would give this a go good luck to other writers 'may your fingers and the connection to mind and creative imagination remain forever strong' Okay speech over!

I don't think you're alone in an aversion to criticism, but it'll be worth it... or so I keep telling myself! It might help if you fill in your profile a little. People like to know where you are coming from!

I've read a few of your submissions and I particularly enjoyed your sense of humor. And don't worry about them critics, just imagine we all belong to this huge dysfunctional family of wannabe writers (a term of endearment, of course) with varying tastes in prose and poetry.

Think of it this way, when they're making a point, it's like pointing at you, that's one index finger levelled at you, and the three usually points back at them; the thumb being an obese useless pointer anyway, good only for the space bar (but don't tell him that).

And you may find the group here easygoing, especially the poet BobChoi, a prolific contributor here.

As for me, critics don't bother me unless they use their middle finger for pointing (but I would hate it more if they use their thumb . . . no I haven't seen anyone use their pointing thumb).

Well, any day above ground is a good day for me and a good day for writing, so I'd say good luck with your double-affair with your pen and keyboard and when those bed bugs bite, that's when you pick them up with your thumb and index and squeeze them into smithereens. (But don't smell it, they'd stink too!) See how easy it is to deal with critics? :-)

I think the fear of criticism might come from expecting barbed and withering comments, but I expect you'll be pleasantly surprised, Juliet.

Not that we're all fawning and full of false parise, just that we all know that same fear and this site has a strong ethos of positive assistance (I really don't like the phrase constructive criticism) rather than negative feedback.

So welcome, and looking forward to reading your work.
