Hi Gate Keeper,
I had mentioned this website somewhere here and it has the links and lists of good publishers and agents
along with those you would try to avoid. The site also features things you should watch out for when selecting
agents and/or publishers.
Good luck.

I have a couple of friends in the publishing business and they both say that mainstream publishers will
rarely, if ever, look at new writers; they will only put money into the established best sellers. Like
any business, they are interested in making money and the costs far out way the risk with new authors.
If you want to try your hand approaching Literary Agents, I wish you the best of luck - it seems harder
than writing your first book but more likely to succeed than approaching Publishers direct.
Print on demand (POD)and self publishing is a growing side to the business and a surprising number of
these then get spotted by Agents. I am fast coming round to POD and selling on Amazon but I guess I have
a better chance with writing about Benefit Fraud as so many people are interested in it.
Best of luck and keep at it! | chum600 [56] | 05/12/2009 |
Cool thanks =) obviously didn't get my book done in that week (STILL working on it, *sigh*) but i'm still
working on it and i'm still looking at publsihers. I'm kinda disappointed knowing i wont get picked up
by random house or something like that but i guess i kinda never really expected to =( thank you for
sharing with me!! | Gate Keeper [85] | 05/12/2009 |
http://anotherealm.com/prededitors/ is an excellent site.
I self published my first two books and that landed me a publisher and gave me a lot of experience in
create books for publishing. So much so, that I have started my own publishing press.
Gatekeeper, the small presses are the best, I've found. | writer113 [34] | 18/12/2009 |
I agree with writer113 ... sometimes, it takes self-publishing to get noticed ... John Grisham did it
and so did Lee Pletzer. | Grampa Pogi [479] | 18/12/2009 |
thanks you guys! i'm STILL working on that book =( but slow and steady i guess. My best friends dad gave
me a really good book thought, and it's helping a lot. It's the Writer's Handbook (2001 Edition). It's
really well written and really helpful. I recomend it very much. Thank you guys so much, you all help
me a lot and it makes me happy that people read my posts and writings, and I enjoy reading all your posts
=) Thank you, Happy Holidays! | Gate Keeper [85] | 19/12/2009 |
It might be a little late, but if you wanna fight the crowds of authors trying to get published still
the best place to start querying agents is querytracker. The other sites listed are also great- and if
you look at Writer's Digest you can find several more. Best of luck to you! And let me know when you set
up a website- I'll become a follower. ;) | Dragonwriter [152] | 23/12/2009 |
I did a blog post on this for young writers, if you want to check it out- it defines all the basics:
