Leaving ( a soldier's lament)

Leaving

through ancient curtains soft morning light touches your shoulders
moving unhurriedly over the hollows and summits of your body
tenderly caressing the dreams that rise from their fitful rest
leaving at full speed from the coming realities of the day

soft breaths keep perfect time with unheard beats within you
tiny upturned corners of your mouth evidence of true contentment
dare I touch such peace and wake you from the night's caring arms?
Leaving me to quench the selfish desires that consume me

sliding away your warmth ebbs from me much too quickly
wistful and melancholy thoughts replacing the passions of the night
now doubt and despair have entered where once only hope resided
leaving my soul bare and unguarded to the world that awaits

looking back, now yearning for my place still visible but now cold
my heart breaking with each step further from your side, I stop
knowing our fates are in the hands of persons unknown , I turn away
leaving you for the last time, leaving you in peace, never again mine.

I was drawn to every line of these poem except one: "knowing our fates are in the hands of persons unknown," These persons, who can they be? It irks me because I can't fathom who are these unknown persons who control your fate!

This is an excellently inked and very poignant poem. The imagery is crisp and vivid, taking the reader through your thoughts and feelings in vivid detail, as I read. So tenderly and sweetly expressed, the poem flows effortlessly. Constructed with grace and style, I enjoyed reading very much. Thank you for sharing. Blessings........
