OH, WELL! by Scott Ballantyne. When all is done And all is said, When letters written And carefully read, When you and I Separate hearts And choose to be In alternate parts, With whole new lives And other being, With time filled And time freeing, With thoughts too close To care for each We will have gone Beyond all reach. We will spare a thought At the odd demand, Uncalled for wonders Of the other's land. Where be he now, And with whom? What does she do, And in whose room? Where did we go, What did we do To lose the shared "I love you"? No matter now It has its past And doubtlessly Won't be the last.
A wonderful piece on love and relationship. Simple in structure and subtle in delivery. I love the upbeat ending. Great poem!
