THAT ONE SUMMER'S EVE

I watched as the last glimmer of summer sunlight,
Peaked just beyond the rugged mountain ridge,
Mesmerized by its boldness,
I couldn't take my focus off of it,
Not wanting the moment to end.

Had it joined itself to the top of the hillside,
Or was it just the imagination of a young girl,
Intrigued by the possibility,
Of bringing a fantasy to life?

Moving slightly sideways then carried upward by the wind,
I could sense it making its way toward me,
Should I look away and adjust my eyes,
To see if it had spotted its admirer?

Momentarily my attention was captured,
By the colorful glow coming from its solid mass,
I wanted to experience the fullness of its beauty,
By reaching out to bring it alive in my hands.

Suddenly, as if on cue the light began to flicker,
And quickly disappear down below the earth's horizon,
Gone were my dreams of owning a piece of summer,
That I had felt a part of that one summer's eve.

If we search for poems on "sunset', there must be hundreds of them, but this one goes beyond the descriptive, its interactive mood (for lack of a better term) made it unique and very interesting. Great poem!

Thanks Bobchoi for the kind words. It is my goal for the reader to have an "experience" when they are reading my work rather than just reading.
