I remember the way we talked,
For hours you would listen intently,
When I knew you had a thousand things to do,
But you never let on.
You made sure my needs were met,
Even when yours were not,
You never complained or let me know,
Just how scared you were.
When it was time for me to enter school,
You gave me words of encouragement,
The hope of a brighter future,
The ability to succeed.
On the day I married you were there,
Telling me how beautiful I was to you,
Praying that my hopes and dreams would be fulfilled,
And then you let me go.
When our children were born,
You were there to hold them as you had once done years earlier,
Looking down softly and lovingly into,
The eyes of your only daughter.
I remember your final words,
As you struggled to look into my eyes for the last time,
When I held your hand as you had mine,
And then I let you go.
