Forever patient, love never ending,
Keeping watch over my every new found step,
A proud grandpa who showered affection,
Over a young girl who adored being in your presence.
More than a grandfather, you were a father to me,
You took his place when he wasn't there,
Never once complaining when I shadowed you,
Walking closely behind in your footsteps.
Lessons about life, not soon forgotten,
A bond that grew closer as you took time to listen,
Gentle reminders instead of harsh scolds,
Always a hug to assure me that I was loved.
Time we spent together, never long enough,
You were taken too soon while I was left here alone,
Stripped away from my childhood heart,
Wishing for one final soft kiss on my cheek.
