Haiti Will Survive

Tearful goodbyes not for these
Caught up in the moment but now gone
Lingering bewilderment from those left behind
Devastation abounds and boggles the mind

Erosion and pain; long suffering
Babies lay wailing from emptiness with no hope
While their mothers are left dying beneath the broken rubble
Life just begun; filled with insurmountable trouble

Injured and alone they must wait
Life continues on at a harrowing pace
Search for food and survival knows no end
Tomorrow a burial and expectantly new life begins

Human tragedy beyond their control
Unwilling participants with nowhere to go
Forgotten are peaceful times with loved ones
Death waits for new victims in its noon day suns

But with fortitude and strength they will prevail
Triumphant victory rising above the depths of despair
Children one day returning to play in the streets
Families coming together; united, not bowing to defeat

This is a wonderful poem, but on the topic of a horrible disaster. Your poem is very strong and hopeful, and everyone hopes that Haiti will survive.
Keep it up,
Audrey

A thoughtful piece of writing. Another helpful reminder of our responsibility to this grieving nation.

Verse 4 drives the massage powerfully.

Thank you Audrey, Chrissie, and Debbie.....I thank you so much for your comments and your insight. It's hard to watch the struggle of these people on television and not be profoundly changed by it.
