FEBRUARY WRITING CLUB!

By audreyhepburn | Posted: 23 January 2010

I am going to try an idea out. I am starting a writing club here on the Circle. Every month there will be a new topic, and anyone who wants to should leave a comment that includes the article/poem/other piece that they want to contribute. The comment should be in this format:
Title (type of writing)
by ______________________

-piece-

Look at the poem I have posted below to see.

You could also make a new article, entitled "In Response to: FEBRUARY WRITING CLUB" or "Re: FEBRUARY WRITING CLUB."

Post anything that the topic inspires you to write, be it a poem, script, joke, narrative, nonfiction piece, letter, riddle, newspaper style article, even a horoscope! Just be sure that if you are posting it in a comment, it has a "G" rating!

I am posting February's topic today, because it is almost February and there is no time to have a January Writing Club. I will post the new topic near the start of every month.

If you have any questions, just leave a comment or contact me on the box in the "audreyhepburn's account" page and I will do my best to answer! Also, if you have any topic ideas, just contact me at the box on the 'audreyhepburn's account' page.

This month's writing topic: SIDEWALKS (or PAVEMENT)
All articles on this website by audreyhepburn are copyright ©audreyhepburn and should not be reproduced without the author's prior written consent. All opinions are the opinions of their respective authors and are not necessarily the opinions of The Writers' Circle.

SIDEWALKS (poem)
by audreyhepburn

I am always being trodden on
Why do I have this fate?
I get cracked, dirty, grimy gray
Why do I have this fate?

No one cares to clean me off
They just keep walking on
No one thinks to help me out
They just keep walking on

In the winter, I get cold
Not that anyone cares
In the summer, I heat up
Not that anyone cares

People drop their cany wrappers
They think that I won't mind
People jump and stomp around
They think that I won't mind

People think I don't have feelings
It's a cruel life, for sure
They laugh, and cry, but never stop
To talk to the poor old sidewalk

Whoops... in the first line of the fourth stanza of the poem I posted I made a typo... "cany" is supposed to be "candy"
Please feel free to post!

Sidewalks

by taylorswift97

Sidewalks

Walking on the sidewalk
Is a couple holding hands
Strolling in the sunlight
Showing their love to the world

Walking on the sidewalk
Is a girl with her dog
Her sweet companion
Who stays with her through it all

Walking down the sidewalk
Is a mother with her child
Giving the toddler fresh air
So he can live a healthy life

Walking down the sidewalk
Is a group of cheerful students
On their way home
After a day full of learning

Walking down the sidewalk
Is a lonely man
Searching for a true love
That he's always wished he had

Walking on the sidewalk
In your neibourhood
Are a bunch of regular strangers
With different stories in their hearts

Sidewalks......always underfoot!
by Unbridledspirit

(a humorous tribute to the sidewalk)

Holding tight all secrets of the passing world
Carrying the weight of those who don't seem to care
As they clamor hurriedly on their way to work and elsewhere
In the chaotic rushed rhythm of life

Taken for granted only noticed when gone
Lying beneath the soles of others deemed more worthy
Freezing but there to catch those fallen in winter snow
Blistering without complaint on hot summer days

Formed with precise vision and strength
With a single purpose their existence is borne
Utilized only for mankind's pleasure and scorn
Made to withstand enormous pressure from others

Not to be found in the green countryside
No use for them there it would seem
But just go to the city and there they will be
Cracked and worn, ready to endure another thankless day

Unbridledspirit, yours is good too!
Its funny how many different poems you can get out of sidewalks!

The lady on the sidewalk
By Iram 24

A lonely lady,
Struggles her way down a sidewalk,
Where many others have left their footsteps on the snow.

Arms crossed against her chest,
Fingers crippled under her armpits.
She shuffles her feet from right to left.

Every piece of jewellery ever own by this lady,
Dangles wildly from her body.
Her eyes scan the dark path.

No glimpse of a soul is seen nor heard,
Yet her heart fashions a fantasy,
A fantasy she has dreamt from her childhood.

Her lips quiver as she mumbles a name,
Tears trickle down her face,
As she shivers down the sidewalk leading to her house.

A house that was never given a chance to become a home.
Her legs weaken against the icy winds,
She settles down against a tree.

She touches the names engraved by young lovers,
Reminding herself of the one true time,
When she had love in her life.

She closes her eyes slowly
A picture of a young man appears in her mind.
She says his name again.

The lost lady's soul painlessly leaves her crippled body,
As it drifts to another place,
She dies calmly whispering his name for the last time.

Sidewalks (poem)
by Dragonwriter

It's not easy
you know.
walking over those lines
blue, and corners
red.

And finding clouds
hidden behind closed
eyes and silent
lips.

Never spoken.

It's not easy
walking straight
shoulders back
up to a podium
steadfast, black.

Never shrinking.

It's not easy
coloring inside
the lines perfectly, each
color bursting out for air
then choked with scissors
into iron trenches.

Never wasting-

along the sidewalks.

Here I lay where I fell don't dilly dalley
If I may be so bold
Help me up so I can join the ralley
And I thank you if you call me O'Malley!

I like this idea. Keep up the good work, Audrey!

I will try to modify the website, so that you can relate articles as soon as I get the time, rather than have replies in the comments only. (Perhaps this will be a new section on the main page.)

You're right taylorswift! There are a lot of responses to this, and it is not even February yet!!

Thanks for letting me start this Carl...I often have great ideas that are never actualized because someone cannot give me permission.
A special section for the club would be cool...and we could keep all of the entries in one place.

Underfoot the pavement solid I travel along its path

Bring me closer to my destiny.
