Currently my practice concerns itself with the unreliability of communication. I am interested in the relationship between literal methods of communication, such as speech and dialogue and visual methods of communication, such as signal and sign. For me, both attempts may be liable to denote failure, or success. I want to establish the importance of personal connections in order to justify 'appropriate material.' In doing so I am determining that there are various interpretations to stimuli whether visual or literal it is different to everyone, and ultimately I believe that this depends on the relativity of experience and the backgrounds which define us. I am cynical about the use of images alone, because they do not serve to describe anything more interesting than surfaces. Surfaces are boring. I rather prefer to seek inspiration from humane sources and behaviours by inventing scenarios, characters or situations which subvert something I learned. This often confuses, disgusts or amuses the viewer, which I believe to be progress. I have never believed art should be generically beautiful, because there is no definition. Art should be immensely interesting and break down barriers and lead to diverse discussion. Creativity is what should stop us from wanting to punch one another for a brief moment.
Hi Loopyo, >>> Creativity is what should stop us from wanting to punch one another for a brief moment. That's certainly one way of looking at it :-) Grampa
