"Enter Mr. Know-It-All!"

There was a time
When I thought that I knew it all
"Enter Mr. Know-It-All!"
He's somebody; but nobody's
Favorite personality
As he exuded an air
Of superiority
Alas, his brains spewed out of his mouth
Choked on his foot while he was found out
Mr. Know-It-All knew nothing at all.

Old Socrates and I
engaged in dialogue
The only real wisdom, I probed
Over tea of hemlock, he spoke
"All I know is . . . I know nothing."
How could I not have an inkling?
Struck by the man's Humility
Humility struck me deeply
And made stark of the difference
between essence and existence.

mnmnI, this is a good poem. Surely, the humility you are talking about will open doors for so much learning.

I might not know what you know and vice versa. So it's good that you had a dialogue with Socrates. His
humility struck you to a positive tune. Good one!

mnmnl, very intelligent and thoughtful. I liked this very much indeed. You have an excellent manner of
stating thoughts and opinions via your poetry.

I think this one is better than the first one. It tells more about the story. I could imagine that you
met him in one party.

I was afraid you'd read my mind, churchmouse
You see the buried spade blade
Thank you for the compliment

The only real wisdom is knowing you know nothing -- I've read that. There will always be a Mr. Know-It-All
with a compendium of trivia and a lot of air(s).
Humility opens the door to knowledge.
I love it.
