Breathe

Years later, I said it.
I untied the ribbons that were sewn through my lips to hold my silence.
Just like that, I opened my mouth and words rushed out,
as if blood were bursting from a wound.

I held back my tears and spoke truth,
so that time would stop going backwards and I could breathe again.

This is really great. I love all of the metaphors, they really help to put across the strong emotions.
