As spring ends and summer begins
I lie on my back and close my eyes,
long grass tickling my bare legs.
The sun's rays are warm against my face,
a cool breeze passes, easing the summer heat.
A cigarette in my mouth, I breathe in its sweetness,
watching the smoke spiral up to the sky.
Pressing a cold beer to my lips,
I savour the refreshing bitter taste
that lingers on my tongue.
I hear the sound of children's laughter in the distance,
the delicious smell of barbeque fills the air.
The surrounding trees sway gently,
as a chorus of voices sing Happy Birthday.
Dandelion wishes spread through the air.
