As some of you may know, I discovered via a customer a site that will produce books cheaply to a professional standard, and I promised to report back on it.
The name of the site is blurb.com they are based in SanFran but ship all over the world and take most currencies.
This is how it works: You go onto their website and download their software onto your computer (This costs nothing) Using the software you then create your book - I have started doing this and it is very easy to use-
When you are happy with your book, you send it to them electronically, pay them whatever that type of book costs, and ten days later the thing arrives on your door-mat.
I have seen some of these books that other people have made and they are very professionally done, and it is possible to have a bar code and book number on it.
The good news is you pay no set up costs, and can order anything from one book to a million. and it is possible to produce a book for less than ten bucks all-in.
The bad news (There is always a catch), is that your book will cost 3-4 times what you would expect to pay for a similar article from the shelf of a book store.
To give you an example, The one that I am working on will be hardback A4 size full colour with around 100-120 pages with around a dozen full colour cartoons and will cost me around 30-35 dollars a piece to produce, so unless you happen to have 10,000 close friends that are willing to buy it you won't make money out of it.
I intend to use them as a marketing tool so for me it makes sense to do it.
Anyway check them out, you don't have to buy anything, and for a few dollars you can have a book with your name on it.
I will keep you posted with how I get on, but due to having to work full time, I expect it to be a couple of months before I have finished making mine.
