Living

A thousand hands reach out for me, without them I will fall,
I try to stand on my two feet, afraid I'll have to crawl,
Everything is backwards; I'm fighting natures will,
And in the distant darkness, I feel a sudden chill.
The mist, it overtakes me, I cannot see a thing,
I forget about the future and the bad times it could bring,
Instead I watch the branches of a tree up in the sky,
It sways from left to right but someday it will die.

Nothing lasts forever, but it doesn't have to end,
If there's nobody to fight then there's nothing to defend,
I love the sunshine on my face as morning comes around,
But as I lie alone at night, I never make a sound.
The grass so green below my feet,
A tarmac pavement, a broken street,
Everything just looks the same,
When everything's a huge big game

I'm scared to open up my eyes,
In case I wake to find I've died,
The birds are silent, nothing moves,
The clip-clop of horses' hooves
I'm not afraid of death, no more,
In the end I know he'll win the war,
But what's the point if we don't live,
Till there is nothing left to give.

Because what is life if not for fun,
No need to rush, no need to run,
Life comes along at its own pace,
Not fighting just to win the race.
All we need is a good friend,
Who'll be with us until the end,
To share the ups and share the downs,
Just smiling, like we cannot frown.

As long as we are not alone,
And there is somewhere we call home,
Then life can come just as it should,
And we will know that life is good.
So take my hand, and we can run,
Far from the dark, into the sun,
We'll make our way through sandy bays,
Into the sea and fly away.

And then we'll be so free from pain,
We'll never see the wind or rain,
We'll live our lives just as we choose,
Admiring the world of views
The music beating through our souls,
The rhythmic beats of rock and roll,
The guitar solos, the distant drums,
Until we know our death must come.

But then we'll be ready, expecting our fate,
And nothing will happen just a little too late,
We'll die together, lie hand in hand,
Just the way that we had planned,
And then new adventures will come our way,
As we will wake another day,
And life will shine just as before,
Except this time from another door.

Just don't forget that life is great,
Don't keep the best, and never wait,
Go out and just live your dreams,
Not everything is how it seems,
But if you don't try, you'll never know,
You'll never play in knee high snow,
You'll never lie under the sun,
If you wait for death to come
