I needed to create something short that would represent psychosis and insomnia; I tried to express the thoughts and feelings associated with a psychotic episode combined with - and worsened by - the effects of lack of sleep.
The part about bananas seemed to fit so well; as an example of slightly odd and obscure thought processes as well as the word 'bananas' having that very relevant double-meaning.
