(This is acctually I song I wrote. You obviously can't hear the tune that it goes to, but I thought that perhaps someone could give me some suggestions or comments on the lyrics.)
Across the blood-red battlefield, bullet shots rang out;
The bodies of fallen soldiers scattered, the air blanketed with pain-filled shouts.
The darkness was shattered as fire was etched across the land;
As a lone soldier looked up to heaven and cried, "God protect me with Your hand!"
God, protect me with Your hand, keep me in Your care.
I need Your help, Your mercy to survive this nightmare.
I know I don't deserve it, but I can't do this on my own.
Lord Jesus, shield me with your hand, let me know I'm not alone.
With tear-filled eyes and trembling, the soldier fell to the moist ground;
Grasping at his bleeding wound, he slowly crawled behind a dirt mound.
His companions came to his side, assuring him it would be okay;
But he slowly smiled and shook his head replying, "Tell my family with God I now stay."
God, keep me with Your hand, please protect me at Your throne.
Keep me in Your prescence, help me to willingly let go.
Lord, protect my wife, my children; all who I hold dear.
I know that with them, You will always be near.
A woman glanced outside her window as a truck pulled into her front yard;
On her porch swing she sat as he silently handed her a card.
With trembling fingers it was opened, upon her lips a silent prayer;
And a small cry escaped her as she read,"Your son is in God's care."
God, protect me with Your hand, provide me with Your strength.
I need your help and comassion, Your blessed prescance.
Help me, Lord, to understand why this has taken place.
Lord Jesus, please, I need Your power, I need Your soverign grace.
