You're Going Where?

I want to say "no where". It's too late for that, though. I've been caught.on my way to the "store". In our crazy house, nobody wants to be caught going to the store.
Why you might ask? It's like this: say you are going to the store for grapes. You've wanted those grapes for hours and you finally decide to go get them. Run in and run out, right? Wrong! Heaven forbid someone should see those car keys in your hand. You'd better run-now! Because if you don't you're going to be elected to go to every store in town for everybody else for everything from diapers to soda to cigarettes to gas to groceries to batteries to movies.

We are not blessed with a Super-Wal-Mart, although we continue to pray for that everyday. So you make a list, check it twice-get last minute requests, rewarded with a stop at the library. It is a miracle if you make it out of the house alive, and you thank God you had an escape plan! You must, of course, stop at the gas station-that is if you plan on going any farther.

Then on to the library to drop off the fifteen books your sister was just going die if she didn't check out. Wal-Mart is next on the list, where batteries and diapers can be had for half-price. Be sure to use those coupons! A stop at the smoke-shop for those discount cigarettes, then on to the movie store, where you can bet the movie you have been sent to get will not be available today. Maybe tomorrow! Last but not least the grocery store, where you check off everything on the list.

Done! A sense of accomplishment at having done everything asked of you, you drive home singing along with the radio. That wasn't so bad you tell yourself. You get home, unload the car, start putting things away and that is when you discover.you forgot your grapes! Oh well, you say to no one in particular, take a deep breath and add, "I'm going to the store, does anybody need anything?"

I am a 40ish independent person with grand ideas that being retired will allow me time to finish that "great novel" I've put off writing for those 40 some-odd years. Honestly, I love to write ... (Read more)
