Qualities needed for success

Do you ever wonder if you have the stamina to write a book, or even the talent to write one? Once you have started, do you ever wonder if the journey is worth the brain ache, or whether you'll ever stand the chance of finishing it? Well, the answer to these questions is my friend, you will never know until you try. For me, there are three qualities needed for an aspiring writer to succeed: luck, talent and hard work. There is maybe nothing you can do about good luck (although what some people call good luck in others is the result of pure legitimate hard work. Talent- well you can do more about that, although one can only develop what is already there. Hard work, well that is a different matter, it is what is readily available to all of us. Writing let's be honest is not a doddle. Yes, I agree sometimes it comes easy; sometimes all we have to do is hold the pen or open the note book. Most of the time however, we struggle and strain, have sleepless or restless nights. Always remember, if writers only wrote when the mood takes, then book shops would be out of business. The successful writer and I don't necessarily mean the published writer but one who has finished a novel/project is a stubborn, single minded person who has braved the terrors of writing and has come through the experience a better person and more importantly a better writer.

talent nil enthusiasm 100% stamina 200%; well two out of three not bad but what I have learned from your exelent article is that if you want to succeed, then get it down on paper, and dont make excuses. Thanks for the encouragement.

And the best way to break "writers cramp" a.k.a. the act of holding a pen above paper or fingers above a keyboard with no idea about what to do next, is to mind-map. Mind-mapping will bring your ideas out so that writing will follow naturally.

A fantastic way to say one of my favourite quotes "Creativity is 1% inspiration 99% perspiration."

Great morale booster for those who have fallen off the writing wagon.

You can always edit something but it's very difficult to edit nothing. Get it written and worry about it later.
