His Nights

                  His Nights

At the end of the day as he gets ready for bed

So many thoughts of her swirl around in his head

And though she’s said no getting together

And he knows that it’s not possible ever

He dreams his dreams at night and knows

That’s about as far as it goes

And when he wakes he still thinks of her

Knowing what his dreams that night were

It takes but an instant; reality returns

Yet his saddened heart still incessently yearns

He knows his dreams will return at night

As he trudges his way thru this day in sight

He thinks of her; remembering her soft voice

In his dreams he listens; that is his choice

He knows where she is during the day

And after that she is on her way

She finds his dreams and enters in

And smiling he knows she’s with him again

Dreams are dreams that are never thru

And each night he dreams anew

At the end of the day as he gets ready for bed

So many thoughts of her swirl around in his head

And though she’s said no getting together

And he knows that it’s not possible ever

He still has her in his dreams

Unrequited love... the "very sweet pain" I've heard it called - finely observed and very well written.  I hope you don't suffer this for real....
