The Drowning

Deeper were you than the calmest ocean -
Smooth and Dark,
Mysterious to me.
I sought to understand those depths
And sank beneath the waters.

Full and reefs and rocks they were -
Impassable.
And yet, I waded in, despite the danger.
And so was swept away and drowned
By your treacherous undertow.

I'd hate to meet the person that inspired that poem. That's why I don't go in the water at the beach! I'm not really too much of a poetry reader, but I liked that one.

I can actually read this poem a couple of ways.. i.e. (a) the person you were writing about was treacherous or (b) their inner depths were treacherous (even to themselves.)

Each of the ways of reading your poem puts a totally different slant on it. Personaly I prefer my 'shared tragedy' reading of it -- i.e. the person whose undertow you drowned in was equally tragical / similarly drowned and not wittingly treacherous at all.

I really enjoyed reading this. I could imagine this person thanks to your very descriptive words. Very deep thoughts here. Loved it!
