Any advice on revising a draft for a perfectionist

Hi there! I've actually written a story on paper, but I have some trouble with revising it (partly because I'm a perfectionist and can't let go of my first draft.) I need help! Any body know any advice you can give about revising for a perfectionist?

Hmmm. that's pretty difficult. I guess you would need to revise it a number of times, increasing your level of perfectionism each time you take a look at it. I.e. turn your perfectionism off the first time round! Perfectionism's both a curse and a gift and I imagine that it's an inveterate quality of every quality writer.

Hi,
All I can say is that once you have finished it you will be too close to be objective. I have a similar problem. I can never understand how a piece of writing, which to me was brilliant when I finished it and yet a couple of months later when I look at it again it is so flawed.
Giving it to your friends or family will not work either, believe me. No matter what they say they will not give you a true sense of their views. Your only hope is to ask someone in the writing circle to give an objective criticism that goes way above what is the norm. Ask them to use the template that is available on the site to give you a deeper critique. There are some good writers in the circle whom I am sure will be able to help you.
