Why do you write?

It's a broad question I guess, but why do you write? Do you want to sell your wonderful first novel and be famous, rich, respected? Do you want to be remembered fifty or a hundred years after do you're gone? Do you write because you simply enjoy writing? Or because, like me, you enjoy words? [Umm, maybe I enjoy words too much - nothing better than reading a dictionary from cover to cover! Bliss!] Do you write because you find it therapeutic and cathartic?

The reason why I write is because, it's a healing process for me when I'm going through things. I write to express my feelings and what might have happened that day. I write words because I'm blessed to know english and it's a way of communicating to people on my feelings. One day I do want to publish my works and maybe it can help others. I hope that my past can help if it is just one person. The enjoyment of writing is so important to me and so I know that I need to continue wiritng to help me. Writing is like therapy for me and it does help me. Sometimes I look back at what I wrote and can see the changes in me from before.
I hope to publish most of my works and accomplish a lot that I can share with others.

I find writing poetry the most therapeutic way of expressing myself. Maybe you could write poetry as well, if you don't already. And perhaps you could post something on this site. I don't know about you, but I write far more stuff when I'm unhappy -- not least because there seems more to write about. Past experience seems to give one that extra will / ability / whatever to express oneself.

I write because one day i hope to become an published author and I plunge myself continuously into writing because my imagination has no need for boundaries, and writing allows me to take other people into my imagination with me. Writing is a gift that should be cherished, to create an entire world in my mind and to actually have it wrote down for others to read and appreciate is somthing i truly enjoy.

Hm, why, indeed!

I love words and what can be achieved by placing them in a particular way. I love the way they make something intangible seem so real.

As a schoolgirl, my dream was to become an art and English teacher. I wanted to write and illustrate children's books.

I love to see my name in print - to have enjoyed producing something that others see as valuable.

I don't believe that I have the ability to be rich and famous - and this isn't really a goal. I've realised that I'm getting too old to continue carting boxes and tubs of art materials around to community groups, facilitating anything from cardmaking to a 6' x 12' mosaic mural.

I do find it easier when I'm working from home on my laptop writing a story and emailing it off to the editor. Also, the practical articles I write - I love researching a project, designing the activity and photographing it, step by step.

My dream is to improve my writing to a quality so that I can produce easy-read novels for publication - it's that or my back'll give out!

Well, I suppose that was a broad answer!

Thanks for the question.

Well , I'd like to be remembered for eternity, and to have something in printed form that speaks volumes. I suppose it must spring from my Dyslexia yet again, proving some people wrong.I just have to write everything down before I forget them and totally loose them forever, from a simple thought to people chatting, my thoughts are like a light bulb, sometimes on other times off!

The reason that i write is because it is a huge part of me. It is a way of escaping. I put pen to paper and i can be anyone in the whole world. If i'm feeling down, i can write a chapter full to the brim with happiness and if i need to vent frustration i can write something dramatic filled with all my exploding emotions. To be honest i am not me if i don't write. It's all i've ever done and i believe that it is all i will ever do. it is my complete passion, and even though my friends think i'm the weirdest teenager ever because i'd rather have my nose in a book or a pad of paper than go out shopping and partying, i really don't care because they don't understand it, they don't understand the connection you get with your characters and your worlds. Sorry if i babbled on a bit lol. How long have you been writing for?

I never thought about it before. I think it's because I love books and reading books so much. I guess I thought that writing a book(or any creative writing) would draw me in even further.

I write to express myself through books (and poetry) and words. You can write a book disgused as your personal thought book. You could create a book on your life through the eyes of a fictional character...or something like that anyway.

Thanks,

I don't know why I write. I could say part of it is because I want to be remembered years form now, but I guess I write because it's a way to express myself. I was always a better writer than speaker. I can't stand speaking my words, but I enjoy writing it because there's no one watching you, no one to make you feel nervous. I write because of that. More importantly though, I write because I can write about my so called alter ego. I believe all writers must had of have an alter ego, and they just had to write about it so their readers could know about the author's other side: his true personality and psychological makeup.

Thanks
