Take good care of yourself...

You must take good care of yourself because, if you don't, it's unlikely anyone else will

If you don't take care of yourself then you'll be unable to care for anyone else

Be good to yourself

Believe in yourself

You are a good person, remember that

You may not have wanted to be where you are right now but you are, and you must only ever do what you are capable of

Never try to take the world on your shoulders, you are not built for that

Be yourself

Put trust in your own intuition

Never let others undermine you

You have a voice, use it

Always protect yourself first and foremost. If you are the first line of defence and you are strong you will prevent the daily encumbrances of life from penetrating those less able to cope

Treat others as you would like to be treated

Friends are hard to find. When you find one be true to that friendship

When a friend offers help take it

When you need help, ask

Never see the need for help as failing

You are not a failure

Never reach the stage where you feel you can't cope

Pillows are good for screaming into

Be true to yourself, admit when you need help and ask for it

Be good to yourself

Do at least one thing each day just for YOU

Never let others intimidate you

Never question 'why me?'...it IS you, make the most of it

Think at least one positive thought each day, even when times are really tough

Money is not life or death, never treat it like your master

Befriend your bank manager

Never shed tears over what you don't have...others have it and wish they had something else

Make the most of what you do have

Never dwell in the past, unless it makes you smile

Never fear the future...we are today

Laugh a lot

Keep a small corner of your mind just for you

See the beauty in nature

Don't get so wrapped up in what could have beens and what ifs that you never feel the warmth of the sun or hear the birds sing

Never be scared of what nature has given us...the air helps you breathe, the fields, trees, flowers and plants teach us about the cycle of life, their colours reflect how vibrant life is.

Nature and its glories are there to be absorbed, not to make you fear

Wide open spaces represent freedom

Small confined spaces represent solitude and privacy

Quiet represents peace

Noise represents energy

Everything that seems negative has a positive

Some people take the motrway of life - fast, comfortable car, smooth road, plenty of roadside assistance if needed. They know where they are going and how to get there...A-Z without too many hitches, just a few stops on the way.

Motorways are boring

Some people lose the map or choose to take the long way, on roads that are winding, narrow, bumpy and desolate which seem to lead nowhere, or go round in circles; some have obstacles in the way or can seem dangerous, others frightening, there may be no-one around to help with breakdown, or to pump up the tyres when they go flat, there may be no sign of a petrol station, fuel often runs low. But you reach your destination having seen the plants on the roadside, the trees in the forest, the animals grazing; you felt the sun beat down on your body, you weathered the storm. Sometimes, out of the darkness a light appeared, a helping hand reached out, you heard a whisper of kind words. You cried in despair then laughed at your fear. You arrive enriched, having learned many lessons on the way.

If asked to travel that road again you would say 'no'...or would you?

Take care

It feels like you mean it and it feels like you want to share all your experience and help people. In my poetry and writing I often feel helpless (youth/idiocy!) but your words here are amazing and reach out without being annoying.

I guess in terms of written style all of this could be focussed on in seperate parts, you have a lot to say and you could create some really great shorter, more specific poems. Just a suggestion. Having said that, reading it all together like this made great sense.

And on a personal level... thanks :)

Thank you Clifton. I wrote a short book for carers about my son and about looking after themselves...never sent it to a publisher though. The book is called Take Care which is where the tract comes from. I then went on to train as a Clinical Advanced Hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner...experience seems to help others a great deal.

That sounds amazing, you should definitely have a shot with your book!

I'm gonna cry. You rock! You write what you think and what you think is right. Never let anyone tear you down.
