Just a little emotional feedback from current events

Recently, a young Iraqi journalist threw his shoes at President Bush and what struck me most is that his age is close to mine. He is being hailed as a hero because throwing your shoe at someone is a sign of extreme disrespect. It seems that everyone hates Americans and the President is no exception to their hatred. Why must Americans be so hated? Why must there be so much death on both sides in the Middle East? War is the funeral in which there is gunfire and anger but no remembrance, no love for each other. It seems that every time civilians anywhere are hurt or killed, more of what makes human beings so beautiful die as well. This no doubt harms Our Creator, regardless of what you call him. There are many who believe in a Book, the Bible, the Koran, all the word of God, of Allah; does this book not speak of unity, of love? How can we be one if we kill? Can't we see that we are always part of each other be it good or bad? If I could choose one, I would prefer to take something beautiful with me but would I get the chance or would an Anti American suicide bomber make the choice for me? If I went to Iraq, would I live long enough to see the beauty of its culture, its people and the horrors of its struggles or would I be killed because I am an American woman who would no doubt be seen as immoral automatically? The painful thing is we all want what is best for other countries and it is the nature of the US to help but we all seem to disagree on what is the best solution for other countries? We want other countries to grow but we also want them to not want to kill us off or to be our enemy. I want Iraq to be the best it can be but will it ever? Even its people disagree. And so more and more people die and I will always mourn for not only American military but for the Iraqi people I will never get to know as friends. I only pray that the beauty of the Middle East can be seen someday.

There will never be a real understanding of the root causes of the hatred against not only Americans but other Western Nations as a whole, unless the ideological, political and social bases of the mentalities of the next generation of potential terrorists are more fully appreciated and efforts to change them are engaged.

For me it is has to be an open acknowledgement of "the dark side of religion" in terms of how religiously based value systems can be perverted to justify and reward the most horrendous of human deeds. Pure evil has been carried out in the name of religion and condoned in the name of God or whatever one calls him over the centuries by most nations of the world, and still is. We have to find ways to stop that transfer of hostility developing because it is this that fuels the cycle of violence started by the terrorists. Terrorists create terror; terror creates fear and anger; fear and anger create aggression and aggression against citizens of different ethnicity or religion creates racism and, in turn, new forms of terrorism are created.

Evil has always existed in many forms in our World and if we are honest with ourselves will continue to flourish in many different ways ad-infinitum. Histories infamous individuals acknowledge as embodying evil, such as Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Sadam Hussein and other national tyrants are all dead, yet evil still flourishes throughout the world with nameless conductors orchestrating ever-new violence.

I am a poet and writer (really?) who has yet to be published. I also have many other hobbies but above all I want to write books that help people.
