A Summer Afternoon – You Choose.

Such a golden place to wander on a summers day

Strolling through the trees of pine and laurel bay

Watching fluffy clouds drifting through the sky

To listen to the tinkle of a merry beck nearby

Fairy seeds of thistledown drifting on the breeze

The scent of flowers vying for the butterflies and bees

See birds turning lazy circles in the air so calm

The baby rabbits playing in the meadow of a farm

See the squirrels caper in the trees of Fairy wood

Hear the low of sleepy cows chewing on their cud

Hear the frogs a-croaking, calling to their mates

Sitting on their lily pads as big as dinner plates

All this paints a picture on the canvass of the mind

A scene that’s full of beauty, even to the blind

Sights and smells so heady they will make you swoon

‘Cos God is in his heaven on a summer afternoon.

         ********** !! OR !! ***********

The frantic shrill of motor bikes,

The raucous screams of little tykes

Ice-cream vans their wares to tout,

With screaming children all about

Dogs barking for the hell of it,

Fried bacon for the smell of it

Barbecues that billow smoke,

Rattling cans of beer and coke

The droning hover mowers,

All chewing up the grass

Noisy car horn blowers

The crash of breaking glass

Police sirens rend the air

Chasing villains to their lair

Ghetto blasters blaring

Loud-mouthed yobbos swearing

A cacophonous distortion

Dispensed without precaution

It all can’t end too soon on a summer afternoon.
