Awakening

I was there, blood seeped through, and my white dress was drenched in crimson. As I lay in the middle of this battle-field, I know I must have turned to smile at you, because there you were trying to defend me against . . . That goes un-named - they weren't human. Their faces morphed into the ugliest expression, their eyes almost pinched tight were black with hunger, their lips drawn back to show the sharpest fangs. Anyone might think vampire, but they weren't vampires, these things had wings black as coal.

When I opened my eyes I was back in my room. I must have screamed, but what went on in my head drowned it out to my own ears. Nightmare. Vision. That was just another one of my visions. I knew that but that didn't stop me from looking down at my clothes; shorts and a T-shirt, no blood.

"Lucinda?" My father opened the door, his grim expression just made the tears that I couldn't seem to hold back flow freely now, when my visions appear to me, I never know when the day is going to happen, but the most important thing is that my visions are never wrong. They happen no matter what I do to stop them. My sister clung to my father, her wide innocent eyes stared back at me in horror.

"It was just a vision, Dad." I explained in a breath, looking anywhere but at him. The bottom of my bed pushed down slightly as he sat.

"What was it this time? Are you okay? Is this about__?"

He meant my best friend, Xavier.

"No," I said fast. "No, he's___ He's okay."

I took a deep breath before adding, "actually, this is about me."

I looked at my sister, Hayden, she'd been quiet the whole time, now she wouldn't look at me. My dad just froze. I'd never had a vision about myself before, so it's pretty much a serious deal that I'd have it now.

"In this vision, I die."

Silence followed by, then finally Hayden raised her head and spoke, unbelievable, words actually came through her lips.

"Who did it?"

I went my best describing the winged monsters, which actually included a pen and paper, the image of them - the exact lines in their faces had stuck in my head like a bullet through skin, their charcoal wings which stayed deadly still against their backs.

I had to try to change that vision. No matter what I had to risk to do it. It'd be worth it, especially when my life is on the line right now, right?
