Where has Yesterday gone?
it was here
just the other day,
all safe,secure,
understandable,reliable;
Where is it now?
where have they put it?
what happened to all yesterday's certainties?
that familiar quotidian theatre
of the High Street, the Factory and the Pit?
where are those daily familiar faces
we all know about?
whom we all understand,
and who understand one another?
whoever took yesterday away
did so without so much
as a by-your-leave,
didn't even bother to leave a note,
a short one along the lines of,
" just borrowing your yesterday,
bringing it back tomorrow."
